Corrugated Cardboard Boxes

While most of us do not realize it, cardboard is nothing less than a revolution in the world of packaging and shipping. It is one of the most durable packaging options to ensure the proper protection of your products during transit. Cardboard boxes are an alternative to wooden crates, which were expensive, heavier, and hard to handle.

Cardboard, on the other hand, is lightweight, cheap, and easy to handle. These boxes are more durable than they seem. That is why most brands and companies use these boxes without sacrificing the safety of the product.

What is cardboard?

Cardboard is a generic term used for some specific products made from paper. The paper used in the production of cardboard consists of wood pulps, which are beaten and dried before the final production. Different types of wood are used for the production of cardboard of different qualities.

According to the survey, about 95% of goods are packed and transported in corrugated cardboard boxes in North America. Due to its lighter weight, ease of accessibility, and disposability, cardboard is regarded as an ideal packaging solution.

What is corrugation?

The process of adding wrinkles, folds, or grooves to an item is known as corrugation. While standard cardboard is a layer of processed Kraft paper, corrugated cardboard consists of several layers put together to make the final product more durable. The cardboard corrugation involves crimpling or folding of a layer of cardboard. This layer is sandwiched between two layers of standard cardboard.

Geometric advantage of corrugation

The center layer of a corrugated cardboard sheet seems to form triangles with the outermost and innermost layers. This center layer makes the corrugated sheet quite durable.

Triangle is the strongest shape in geometry. That is why it is used for the construction of colossal bridges and roofs of homes. The smaller, fixed triangles allow a sheet to gain the ability to remain undamaged even if you put something heavy on it.

Making the most of a corrugated cardboard

Although the triangles used in the corrugated cardboard are small, they retain the strength to hold heavy items. So rather than buying heavier and more expensive wooden crates, you can buy corrugated cardboard boxes, which are easy to assemble and extremely lightweight. These characteristics allow both sellers and consumers from paying hefty shipping costs.

The best thing about corrugated cardboard is its recyclability. These materials are produced from wood. After recycling, they come out of the recycling unit ready for another round of cardboard production. It means that sticking to the use of corrugated cardboard can be quite promising for the environment because most of the cardboard materials will become usable again.

Another reason companies should consider using corrugated cardboard is that they are durable and strong enough to hold heavy items. Not only they are durable, but they also protect the product by providing them ample cushioning, thanks to the fluted layer of the corrugated sheet.

If you want to use these boxes for the packaging of your products, be sure to discuss your requirements with a packaging supplier.
